Zambia to Host China-Zambia High-Quality Development Forum
Zambia is gearing up to host the China-Zambia High-Quality Development Forum in Lusaka on May 15th, 2024. This event follows President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit to China in September 2023 at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
The forum, officially launched by Zambia’s Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, will feature representatives from both the public and private sectors of China and Zambia.
The primary objective is to explore and discuss potential collaboration opportunities between the two nations.
Minister Mulenga expressed his belief that the forum will foster productive discussions and further strengthen economic and trade relations between China and Zambia.
He emphasized the value of mutual learning and continuous bilateral cooperation.
Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Du Xiaohui, revealed that over 200 Chinese companies from more than 20 cities across five provinces have already registered to attend the forum.
Ambassador Xiaohui underscored the importance of the forum in demonstrating China and Zambia’s enduring partnership on the path to development.
He further stated that China’s economic growth presents significant opportunities for expanded cooperation between the two countries.
The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) also expressed its commitment to collaborating with the Chinese government and relevant business chambers to facilitate smooth investment by both potential and existing Chinese investors in Zambia.
Director General Albert Halwampa, through his representative Mr. Gabriel Musentekwa, emphasized the agency’s efforts in promoting business partnerships between Zambian and Chinese private sectors.
The forum is expected to attract prominent attendees, including President Hakainde Hichilema, cabinet ministers, representatives from the Bank of China, and the World Bank.
