LCC Committee Tours Billboards and Trading Spaces in Kabwata and Munali Constituencies

The Planning and Information Management System Committee of the Lusaka City Council (LCC) embarked on a tour of five different locations within Kabwata and Munali Constituencies to assess applications for the renewal of billboards and extension of trading spaces.

Led by Committee Chairperson Kaliko Evans, who also serves as Munkolo Ward 15 Councillor under Kanyama Constituency, the aim of the tour was to provide committee members with a firsthand understanding of the situation on the ground.

This would enable them to make informed decisions when reviewing applications for the renewal of billboards and trading spaces, as explained by Bwalya Kalimanshi, Public Relations Officer of the LCC.

During the tour, the committee observed an alarming increase in the number of illegal billboards being erected without proper documentation, in clear violation of the Planning and Regional Act of the laws of Zambia.

Kalimanshi emphasized that the Lusaka City Council is committed to putting an end to illegal constructions and mounting of billboards, as maintaining order within the city is paramount.

Furthermore, Kalimanshi reiterated the importance of obtaining planning permission before constructing and erecting any structures.

He warned that erecting billboards without the local authority’s planning permission could result in legal penalties.
