HH Joins Other Heads of State in Celebrating Unity Day with Tanzania
Zambia joined heads of state, global leaders, and thousands of Tanzanian citizens to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the union of Zanzibar and Tanganyika.
The celebration, held in honor of Unity Day, marked the historic merger that gave birth to the United Republic of Tanzania.
Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, presided over the event, which drew attention to the enduring bond between the two nations.
President Hakainde Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia expressed delight and honor at participating in the festivities, highlighting the shared values and history that have united Zambia and Tanzania since their respective independence in 1964.
One significant chapter in their shared history was the joint effort during the apartheid era, where both nations stood as a united front against the oppressive system.
Not only did they lead the campaign against apartheid, but they also provided refuge and support to those seeking safety and security.
The legacy of Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda and Dr. Julius Mwalimu Kambarage Nyerere, revered as the founding fathers of Zambia and Tanzania respectively, continues to reinforce the enduring relationship between the two countries.
Their principles of mutual respect and trust have laid a solid foundation for cooperation and partnership.
President Hichilema conveyed heartfelt congratulations to President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the people of Tanzania on this momentous occasion.
He expressed hope that the future generations of both countries would continue to benefit from the rich tapestry of their shared history.
