Immigration and DEC Joint Operation Nets Chinese, Vietnamese, and Zambian Suspects in Lusaka Raid
In a coordinated effort between the Department of Immigration and the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), a significant operation resulted in the apprehension of multiple suspects in Lusaka, Zambia.
Thirteen Chinese nationals, comprising ten females and three males, along with two female Vietnamese and two Zambian drivers, were detained during a late-night raid on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2024. Acting on a tip-off and weeks of investigation, authorities raided a residential property in Lusaka’s Mass Media Area.
Namati H. Nshinka, the Public Relations Officer, stated that the suspects were intercepted while attempting to leave the premises in two white Toyota Alphard vehicles and a black Toyota Mark X. One Chinese male, Lai Aiping (36), allegedly linked to an internet fraud syndicate, was among those apprehended.
During the operation, authorities seized cash amounting to K248,195 and USD 1,105, along with 98 Airtel SIM cards found in the black Toyota Mark X. Additionally, stacks of condoms and unidentified drugs were discovered on the property, with condoms confiscated by Immigration and drugs handed over to DEC for testing.
The impounded Toyota Alphard vehicles indicate further evidence of illicit activities. All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Authorities suspect their involvement in commercial sex activities, potentially linked to specific casinos.
The Immigration Department issued a stern warning to foreign nationals engaging in illegal activities, emphasizing the consequences of arrest, prosecution, and deportation. Collaboration between law enforcement agencies underscores the commitment to combat crime and maintain national security.
Mr. Nshinka reaffirmed the Immigration Department’s dedication to collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to identify and expel foreigners involved in unlawful activities, ensuring the integrity of Zambia’s immigration system.
