President Hichilema Urges Collaboration with Clergy to Promote Unity and Economic Development in Mongu
President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia emphasized the importance of unity in diversity and economic progress to foster social development in the region. Meeting with local clergy, President Hichilema underscored the challenges faced due to the economic hurdles inherited from previous administrations, particularly the substantial debt burden.
The President highlighted the intricate negotiations involved in the debt rescheduling process, which has resulted in positive outcomes, providing much-needed flexibility for investment in social welfare programs.
President Hichilema stressed the significance of economic development in Western Province, emphasizing the necessity of job creation to prevent the region from lagging behind the rest of the country.
“We expressed our desire for the people of Western Province to have job opportunities, emphasizing that this would only be possible if economic development was allowed in the region,” stated President Hichilema.
Acknowledging the looming threat of drought, President Hichilema urged collaboration between the government and the Church to provide social safety nets for the populace. This collaborative effort aims to mitigate the adverse effects of drought and ensure the well-being of the citizens.
The meeting concluded with a call for unity among citizens and a commitment to working together towards economic prosperity and social cohesion in Mongu and beyond.
