Kuomboka Ceremony Celebrates Success Despite Drowning Tragedy
The 2024 Kuomboka Ceremony in Zambia concluded with mixed emotions. While security forces ensured a crime-free event, a drowning incident marred the celebratory atmosphere.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Milner Muyambango commended officers for their professionalism and collaboration with the public in Mongu and Limulunga Districts.
This cooperation resulted in a peaceful and colorful ceremony.
However, tragedy struck when 13-year-old Siyanga Mukololo drowned in Mulamba harbor.
According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, Mukololo, a grade 8 student, attempted to swim across the harbor during the ceremony.
Despite efforts by Police Marine officers, they were unable to save him.
Authorities expressed condolences to the family and have opened an inquiry into the drowning.
