SMEs Seen as Zambia’s Economic Savior
A Zambian economic expert, Mr. Kelvin Chisanga, sees a bright light in Zambia’s economic future, but it shines through a growing number of small businesses.
Mr. Chisanga identifies a two-fold approach to achieve this goal.
Firstly, Zambia needs to embrace a cultural shift that encourages and simplifies the creation and operation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
This means more Zambians should be empowered to launch and run their own businesses.
Secondly, Mr. Chisanga stresses the importance of equipping Zambians with the skills they need to succeed as entrepreneurs.
This could involve implementing specific programs that provide training and mentorship, fostering the development of essential business acumen.
Mr. Chisanga is confident that a robust SME sector can act as the engine that drives Zambia’s economic fundamentals forward.
He sees Zambia’s potential to leverage a thriving SME sector across critical areas like power generation, agriculture, and water and sanitation infrastructure.
While acknowledging the economic hardships Zambia faces, Mr. Chisanga views a strong SME sector as a way to not only weather these storms but also foster innovative solutions.
He notes that Zambia can build a more resilient and attractive economy for future investment by supporting and empowering SMEs.
