World Bank Discusses Anti-Corruption Collaboration with Zambia’s ACC
The fight against corruption in Zambia received a boost last week with a courtesy call by World Bank Group Lead Governance Specialist, Ms. Donna Louise Andrews, on Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General Mr. Thom Shamakamba.
The meeting centered on the ACC’s observations regarding the Human Resource Management (HRM) framework and public sector integrity issues. Discussions explored potential areas for reform and collaboration in the fight against corruption.
Ms. Andrews expressed the World Bank’s commitment to future collaboration, particularly in promoting ethical conduct and integrity among government employees.
She commended the ACC’s achievements, including the Integrity Committee Programme.
World Bank Consultant for HRM Strategic Review, Ms. Munyongo Lumba, accompanied Ms. Andrews during the visit.
ACC Director General Mr. Shamakamba expressed his appreciation for Ms. Andrews’ visit and outlined ongoing legal reforms to strengthen the fight against corruption.
These reforms include the drafting a bill mandating asset and liability declarations for public officials and Increasing penalties for corruption offenses.
Mr. Shamakamba explained that the proposed asset declaration bill would facilitate asset tracing and the recovery of unexplained wealth.
