SNEL’s Kabemba Elected Chairperson of SAPP Executive Committee

The Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) concluded its 56th Executive Committee Meeting with the election of Fabrice Lucinde wa Lusangi Kabemba, Chief Executive Officer of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s National Society of Electricity (SINEL), as the Chairman of the organ.

Held in the Zambian Capital Lusaka, at the Ciêla Resort and Spa, the meeting also saw Mohlomi Seitlheko, representing Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC), elected as Vice Chairperson of the organ.

Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in SNEL, Mayanga Kasongo Maurice, speaking on behalf of the SNEL CEO, acknowledged the significance of the appointment and pledged to work closely with ZESCO Limited, the host of the SAPP gala dinner and a key partner in steering SAPP towards its objectives.

“The mandate you have just entrusted us with is a great challenge, for ourselves as the DRC, and for all the countries in the sub-region,” Mr. Maurice remarked. “We thank ZESCO for having taken this challenge… We will count on ZESCO to support us where we will be challenged.”

With 17 power utilities from 12 Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries, the SAPP plays a crucial role in regional energy cooperation, with Zambia serving as the outgoing Chair of the organ.

ZESCO Limited, in collaboration with Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company, Ndola Energy Limited, and the Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc, facilitated the meeting, with support from sponsors such as Zambia National Commercial Bank, ABSA Bank Plc, GreenCo, NR Electric Co. Ltd, and Maamba Collieries Limited.

The Executive Committee, composed of chief executive officers of the SAPP member power utilities, convenes bi-annually to address strategic matters concerning the regional power market.

Eng. Victor Benjamin Mapani, Managing Director of ZESCO Limited, previously served as the Chairperson of the EXCO, a role he assumed in 2022.
