Focused on development cooperation and healthcare, these agreements were formalized during a meeting between Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Zambia, and His Excellency Mr. Miloš Vystrčil, Speaker of the Senate of the Czech Republic.
This ceremony underscores the dedication of both nations to fostering mutual collaboration and support.
The MoU on development cooperation, inked by Hon. Haimbe on behalf of Zambia and His Excellency Mr. Pavel Procházka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Zambia, prioritizes areas such as agriculture and rural development, inclusive social development, and public administration and civil society.
This agreement lays the foundation for bilateral development projects and technical assistance aimed at fostering sustainable growth and prosperity.
Additionally, the healthcare agreement paves the way for the implementation of MEDEVAC, a Government program of the Czech Republic focused on providing medical care, training for medical professionals, and enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Zambia.
This initiative holds the potential to significantly improve healthcare services and address critical medical needs in the country.
Hon. Haimbe underscored the historical and cordial relations between Zambia and the Czech Republic, expressing gratitude for the Czech Republic’s support across various sectors, including agriculture, health, and education.
He emphasized that the signing of these agreements symbolizes the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation for mutual benefit.
In response, Mr. Vystrčil highlighted Zambia’s immense potential for development and reaffirmed its status as a priority country for Czech Republic’s development cooperation.
He outlined key areas of focus, including agriculture, rural development, healthcare, and sustainable development, underscoring the Czech Republic’s dedication to supporting Zambia’s development agenda.
Moreover, Mr. Vystrčil revealed that a Czech business delegation is currently in Zambia to participate in the EU-Zambia Business Forum, aimed at fostering commercial partnerships within the copper value chain and exploring opportunities for value addition in Zambia’s copper sector.
During his visit, Mr. Vystrčil also held meetings with President Hakainde Hichilema and Rt. Hon. Ms. Nelly Mutti, SC, Speaker of the National Assembly, further solidifying the diplomatic ties between Zambia and the Czech Republic.
The extension of the MoU on development cooperation until 2030 reflects the long-term commitment of both countries to collaboration and mutual growth, signaling a promising future for their partnership.
