EU-Zambia Business Forum Emphasizes Green Practices to Boost Copper Industry

The EU-Zambia Business Forum convened in Kitwe, Zambia, this afternoon under the theme “Growing the Copper Industry in Zambia through Green Value Chain,” aiming to catalyze sustainable growth in the country’s vital copper industry.

With the presence of Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema, the forum echoed a resolute commitment to advancing environmentally friendly practices throughout the copper value chain.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, President Hichilema highlighted Zambia’s potential as an attractive business destination, a vision he previously articulated during his address to the European Union Parliament in 2022. “For too long, African economies have been undervalued,” President Hichilema remarked, underscoring the need for fair capital pricing and access to cutting-edge technologies in driving Zambia’s economic development.

The theme of the forum resonates with Zambia’s broader strategy to leverage green technologies and sustainable practices in its copper mining sector. Emphasizing the importance of partnerships offering reasonably priced capital and state-of-the-art technology, President Hichilema reiterated Zambia’s commitment to fostering a conducive business environment.

The forum comes at a critical juncture for Zambia’s copper industry, which plays a pivotal role in the country’s economy. By embracing environmentally friendly approaches across mining, processing, and distribution, Zambia aims to not only enhance the sustainability of its copper sector but also attract greater investment and ensure long-term prosperity.

The stability of Zambia’s democratic institutions was also highlighted as a key factor in attracting foreign investment. With a track record of peaceful transitions spanning six decades, Zambia presents itself as a politically stable and secure investment destination—a crucial consideration for prospective investors.

In conclusion, the EU-Zambia Business Forum marks a significant step towards fostering sustainable growth and innovation in Zambia’s copper industry. With a firm commitment to green practices and technological advancement, Zambia is set to unlock the full potential of its natural resources while safeguarding the environment for future generations.
