Represented by Mr. Mutale Mubanga, President of the Biomedical Society of Zambia (BMSZ), Zambia’s appointment marks a pivotal moment in advancing the role of laboratory professionals in Africa.

The formation of FALPA, convened by the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) on March 27, 2024, brought together Presidents from National Laboratory Associations across African Member States.

This landmark gathering resulted in the establishment of a robust governance structure and the appointment of a Leadership Team tasked with serving a three-year term from 2024 to 2026.

Working alongside Vice Chairperson Alibu Patrick Denis from Uganda and Secretary Safari Kithi from Kenya, Mr. Mubanga will lead FALPA’s efforts to advocate for the recognition, advancement, and regulation of the laboratory profession across the African continent.

The elected representatives from Southern Africa, East Africa, Central Africa, West Africa, and North Africa will collaborate to strengthen the profession and improve health outcomes.

In his address to the Federation, Chairman Mutale Mubanga reiterated FALPA’s commitment to advocating for the advancement of laboratory professionals in Africa.

He expressed gratitude to ASLM for its pivotal role in facilitating the establishment of this groundbreaking organization, which is poised to revolutionize the laboratory landscape in Africa.

The Federation aims to serve as a unified voice, promoting the importance of laboratory professionals and their contribution to healthcare systems continent-wide.

Through advocacy and collaboration, FALPA seeks to elevate the status of the laboratory profession and ultimately enhance health outcomes for communities across Africa.

Mr. Nqobile Ndlovu, CEO of ASLM, extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected leadership, emphasizing the critical role of FALPA in connecting associations across the continent to advance the laboratory profession and improve health outcomes in Africa.
