Today, Her Honour, the Deputy Mayor of Lusaka, Ms. Ketty Nanyangwe, joined a host of dignitaries and government officials at the official launch and ceremony of the Zambia@60 Logo and Theme, a significant precursor to the upcoming Independence Commemoration activities.
The event, held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, was graced by the Republican Vice President, Mrs. W.K. Mutale Nalumango, who presided over the proceedings.
In her inaugural address, Mrs. Nalumango paid tribute to Zambia’s 60-year golden jubilee, extending heartfelt appreciation to the nation’s freedom fighters for their unwavering dedication to securing Zambia’s independence.
She emphasized the paramount importance of upholding the core principles and values encapsulated in Zambia’s motto: “One Zambia, One Nation, and One People.”
Advocating for national unity, Mrs. Nalumango lauded the visionary endeavors of Zambia’s founding fathers and stressed the imperative of safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.
She urged citizens to reflect introspectively on Zambia’s history while cherishing the enduring peace enjoyed over the past six decades.
Highlighting the pivotal role of peace, security, and political stability, Mrs. Nalumango underscored these factors as foundational to driving the country’s economic transformation agenda collectively.
In alignment with this year’s Independence anniversary theme, “#60YearsStrongHonoringOurHeritageEmbracingOurFuture,” Mrs. Nalumango called for concerted efforts in fostering peace and unity to propel Zambia’s continued prosperity and address prevailing developmental challenges.
Following the official unveiling of the Logo, the Republican Vice President advocated for a comprehensive community cleanliness initiative, aligning with the “Keep Zambia Clean, Green, and Healthy Campaign” initiated last November.
Mrs. Nalumango also addressed recent adversities such as the cholera outbreak and ongoing droughts, stressing the need for resilience in confronting these challenges.
The ceremony culminated with a symbolic gesture as Mrs. Nalumango planted a tree at the newly inaugurated Kenneth Kaunda wing of the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, underscoring the commitment to environmental sustainability and national rejuvenation.
The statement was issued by Bwalya Kalimanshi, Public Relations Officer, Lusaka City Council (LCC), encapsulating the significance of the event and the vision set forth for Zambia’s future as it commemorates its 60th year of independence.
