Zambian Minister Champions International Cooperation for Affordable Housing at Global Forum in Paris

Hon. Eng. Charles Milupi, MP, the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development for Zambia, recently made significant strides in advocating for international cooperation in affordable housing during his attendance at the Maiden Buildings and Climate Global Forum held in Paris, France.

The forum, attended by over 1,000 delegates representing governments and key stakeholders in the buildings sector, saw Minister Milupi and counterparts from various countries endorsing the Ministerial Declaration De Chaillot.

This non-legally binding statement aims to foster commitment in international cooperation among governments and non-state actors in the building and construction sector.

During the high-level plenary session focused on affordable housing, Minister Milupi, alongside counterparts from Brazil, the United States, Ukraine, Turkey, Egypt, Liberia, and Japan, discussed strategies to address housing deficits. Notably, Minister Milupi highlighted Zambia’s utilization of Public-Private Partnerships to tackle its housing shortage.

Emphasizing the importance of stronger global partnerships along the housing value chain, Minister Milupi underscored that international cooperation is pivotal in securing finance to achieve net-zero and resilient-building targets, crucial for both developing and developed countries.

The Minister’s proactive engagement and advocacy for international collaboration in addressing housing challenges have been recognized as pivotal steps towards fostering sustainable development and meeting global housing needs.
