Zambia Engages Proactively at UNEA-6 to Address Global Environmental Challenges

Zambia, represented by the Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu, MP, has taken an active role in the Sixth Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) held in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya.

The assembly, convened under the theme “Effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution,” aims to address pressing environmental issues on a global scale.

With a firm commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, Zambia is leveraging its participation to engage in crucial dialogues and forge partnerships to mitigate climate change, preserve biodiversity, and combat pollution.

Highlighting the importance of Zambia’s presence, Minister Nzovu stated, “We recognize the urgency of addressing environmental challenges and the pivotal role of multilateral cooperation in achieving our shared goals for a sustainable future. Zambia is fully committed to contributing meaningfully to the discussions and decisions at UNEA-6.”

Throughout the week-long assembly, Zambia is poised to hold bilateral meetings with key stakeholders, including the UNEA-6 President, the Minister of Energy and Sustainable Development of the Kingdom of Morocco, and other prominent leaders in environmental governance.

These meetings aim to foster collaboration, exchange experiences, and explore opportunities for enhancing environmental initiatives.

In line with its dedication to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Zambia seeks to align its national strategies with global efforts to address environmental challenges comprehensively.

The country will deliver a National Statement to the Assembly and actively participate in dialogues focusing on strengthening the convergence of actions among multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) and mobilizing financial and technical resources to combat climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

UNEA-6, as the world’s highest decision-making body on the environment, provides a platform for Zambia to showcase its commitment to environmental sustainability and advocate for concerted action on a global scale. By engaging actively in the assembly, Zambia aims to derive maximum benefits for its citizens and contribute to the collective efforts toward a healthier planet.
