Minister of Education Calls for Technological Transformation
Hon. Douglas M. Syakalima, M.P, Minister of Education, was a prominent participant at the 2024 Africa Business Forum, organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
The event, held on the sidelines of the 37th Ordinary Session of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, focused on the theme, “Boosting Africa’s transformation through education, science, technology, and innovation.”
During the forum, Minister Syakalima emphasized the urgent need to harness emerging technologies to revolutionize Africa’s financial systems, particularly in the realm of education financing and investment.
He highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to expand access to education through distance and open learning, as well as enhancing teacher quality through innovative methods.
One of the key takeaways from the discussions was the call for African countries to collaborate in transforming the continent’s education system through the strategic use of technology.
The forum served as a vital platform for dialogue between public and private sectors, aiming to accelerate efforts towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
Notably, the forum provided an opportunity for the private sector to play a significant role in accelerating investment in education, science, technology, and innovation, thereby contributing to Africa’s overall transformation.
The recommendations stemming from the forum will be integrated into Africa’s collective voice, shaping the preparatory discussions for the upcoming UN Secretary General’s Summit of the Future in September 2024.
This summit aims to unite global leaders in forging a new international consensus on empowering Africa to secure a better present and future.
