ZAMMSA Commends Police for Apprehending Health Workers Involved in Medicine Theft
The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has commended the swift action of the Zambia Police in apprehending three health workers accused of stealing medicines and medical supplies worth K112,000 from a public health facility in Chibombo.
According to Bradley Chingobe, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at ZAMMSA, the Central Province police command arrested the three suspects, all of whom are employees at Mwachisompola Level One Hospital in Chibombo district.
Expressing concern over the reported theft, Mr. Chingobe emphasized that such actions contradict the government’s commitment to providing easy access to quality healthcare for all citizens.
He highlighted that the theft deprives the people of Mwachisompola village and its environs of their constitutional right to free and unhindered access to essential medicines.
ZAMMSA extended gratitude to the police for apprehending the individuals responsible for stealing government medicines for personal gain.
Mr. Chingobe urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected theft or mismanagement of government medicines to law enforcement agencies.
Furthermore, ZAMMSA called for stricter laws and penalties for individuals found guilty of pilfering and selling essential public medicines and medical supplies.
Mr. Chingobe emphasized the importance of deterring such criminal activities to safeguard the healthcare needs of the population.
