Zanaco CEO Showcases Bank’s Commitment to Zambia’s Mining  

Zambia National Commercial Bank (Zanaco) PLC made waves at the Investing in African Mining Indaba, reaffirming its position as a key player in the country’s financial landscape. 

Led by their remarkable Chief Executive Officer, Mukwandi Chibesakunda, Zanaco’s presence at the prestigious summit underscored its dedication to supporting Zambia’s burgeoning mining industry.

The Mining Indaba, known as the largest summit for the global mining sector, witnessed Zanaco’s impressive performance and leadership.

The bank’s proactive approach and engagement with partners, clients, and potential investors showcased its pivotal role in the fast-growing Zambian mining ecosystem.

Under the theme of “Positive Disruption,” this year’s Indaba highlighted Zambia’s commitment to being open for business.

Zanaco, represented by Mrs. Chibesakunda, emphasized the bank’s role in facilitating progress and fostering partnerships, aligning with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision for economic growth.

During a panel discussion titled “Pan African Investment – Developing Projects Through Local Financing,” Mrs. Chibesakunda reiterated Zanaco’s commitment to being a local partner in the country’s development. 

She emphasized the importance of demonstrating support for local initiatives, especially amidst significant investment commitments in the mining sector.

Highlighting Zambia’s recent mining milestones, including the discovery of the largest copper orebody and substantial investment pledges, Mrs. Chibesakunda reaffirmed Zanaco’s leadership in mining finance. 

The bank’s continued support for local miners and SMEs, exemplified by its financing of start-up Mijeko Mining, underscores its commitment to fostering growth and innovation.

In an interview with Financial Insight, Mrs. Chibesakunda emphasized Zanaco’s dedication to supporting entrepreneurs, particularly women, in the mining sector. 

The financing of Mijeko Mining, spearheaded by Brinnah Munsanje, reflects Zanaco’s belief in empowering local talent and driving positive change in the industry.

Mrs. Munsanje, buoyed by Zanaco’s support, expressed her readiness to disrupt the mining market and put Zambia on the map as a leading mining destination in Africa.
