Day 2 of Planet Love Strike and Campaign Advocates for Environmental Protection
Today marks the commencement of the Planet Love Strike and Campaign, a movement aimed at raising awareness and taking action on pressing environmental issues.
Led by Emily Nalwamba, CEO of Lighthouse Foundation, the campaign is driven by the vision of making environmental protection the new cool and promoting ecooutrageous actions.
The campaign’s goals are clear and ambitious, focusing on key areas that require urgent attention.
These include raising awareness about climate change and environmental protection, advocating for the ban of single-use plastics and littering in Chingola, and urging the Confederation of African Football (CAF) not to renew Total Energies’ sponsorship of the AFCON due to environmental concerns.
Moreover, the campaign demands accountability from oil companies operating in Africa, emphasizing the need for them to pay for climate action and align with net zero and Paris Agreement targets.
It also calls for an end to “greenwashing” and “sportswashing” practices by Total Energies, stressing the importance of genuine commitment to environmental sustainability.
Clean renewable energy and efficiency are highlighted as crucial components of the campaign, along with promoting sustainable consumption patterns and holding plastic polluters accountable for their actions.
The campaign’s areas of focus include climate education, climate finance, climate mitigation and adaptation, environmental protection, and youth involvement in addressing climate change.
As Day 2 of the Planet Love Strike and Campaign unfolds, activists and supporters are encouraged to join the movement and contribute to the collective effort of protecting the planet for future generations.
