In a dedicated effort to enhance the well-being of persons with disabilities across the country, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by this marginalized group.

The Minister launched the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) 2023-2026 strategic plan, emphasizing the Ministry’s active role in finalizing a revised national policy for persons with disabilities. The overarching goal is to comprehensively address the unique needs of this demographic.
The strategic plan, focused on coordination, operational excellence, and financial sustainability, is poised to pave the way for a well-coordinated and inclusive society.
Ms. Mwamba envisions a society where persons with disabilities actively participate in all spheres, reaping the benefits of socio-economic development.
Ethel Bangwayo, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), acknowledged the challenges faced by people with disabilities due to deficiencies in structural, social, political, and cultural environments.
She assured that the UNDP would adopt a proactive approach to address these challenges, aligning with the core principles of the UN Charter and supporting disability-inclusive development through the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
Moses Luneta, Chairperson of the ZAPD Board, called for the eradication of fundamental barriers hindering persons with disabilities.
The collaborative efforts of the government, UNDP, and ZAPD aim to usher in a more inclusive and accessible society, ensuring that the aspirations of persons with disabilities are met on multiple fronts.
