President Hichilema Pays Tribute to Late Lt. Gen. Ronnie Shikapwasha, Calls for Unity and Responsible Gun Control

In a solemn farewell ceremony held at the Mulungushi International Conference Center, President Hakainde Hichilema led the nation in bidding farewell to the late former Minister of Information and Media, Hon. Lt. Gen. Ronnie Shikapwasha (Rtd). 

The President’s poignant remarks touched upon several key points, highlighting the significance of the departed leader’s legacy.

President Hichilema began by extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire nation, acknowledging the profound loss experienced by Zambia. 

He described Hon. Lt. Gen. Ronnie Shikapwasha (Rtd) as a dignified son of the country, emphasizing that the government holds, and will continue to hold, him in high esteem.

Recognizing the late General’s exemplary diligence and devotion to duty, President Hichilema urged fellow Zambians to emulate his commitment to service. 

He underlined the belief in consolidated service, noting that Hon. Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha (Rtd) exemplified leadership emerging from various perspectives.

In a call for unity, the President encouraged solidarity among the bereaved family, emphasizing the importance of supporting each other during this difficult time. 

President Hichilema directed the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security to review gun licensing laws, prompted by the circumstances of the general’s passing and concerns over the misuse of firearms. 

He stressed the need for stringent measures to safeguard citizens.

While advocating for responsible gun control, the President cautioned against citizens taking matters into their own hands. 

He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive and well-regulated approach to gun ownership to ensure the safety and security of the population.

President Hichilema concluded his remarks by urging mourners to honor Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha’s memory with dignity, emphasizing the importance of a respectful mourning process. 

The farewell ceremony served as a poignant moment for the nation to come together, remember, and celebrate the life of a distinguished leader who made significant contributions to Zambia.
