Bank of Zambia Strengthens Ties with Media

The Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Deputy Governor – Operations, Dr. Chipimo, is spearheading the Seventeenth (17th) Media Seminar, taking place from Tuesday, January 16th, to Thursday, January 18th, 2024, at Lake Kariba Inns in Siavonga, Southern Province.

The seminar, hosting 41 participants from 34 media houses, aims to foster collaboration between the Bank and the media, focusing on improving communication of monetary policy and contributing to the capacity building of business reporters.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Chipimo underscored the pivotal role the media plays as a key stakeholder in the formulation and implementation of monetary policy.

He emphasized the need for a symbiotic relationship between the financial institution and the media for effective dissemination of information.

The BoZ Seminar will cover a range of topics crucial to understanding the intricacies of monetary policy and financial systems.

These include discussions on monetary policy, inflation, exchange rates, government securities, Export Proceeds Tracking Framework, payment systems, customer complaints procedures, and money circulation schemes.

This marks the return of the BoZ Media Seminar after missing the 2022 and 2023 editions, with the last interface hosted in 2021 at the Urban Bliss Hotel in Kabwe, Central Province, under the theme “Understanding the Monetary Policy Committee Statement.”

The revival of this annual event signifies the importance of continuous dialogue and knowledge-sharing between the financial sector and the media.

As the seminar unfolds, participants can anticipate gaining valuable insights into the latest developments in monetary policy, deepening their understanding of economic intricacies, and fostering stronger ties between the media and the Bank of Zambia.

The event promises to be a significant step towards enhancing transparency, trust, and effective communication between the financial institution and the media landscape.
