LCC Intensifies Efforts to Combat Cholera Outbreak

In response to the escalating threat of a cholera outbreak, the Lusaka City Council (LCC) has launched a comprehensive and vigorous initiative to tackle the issue in hotspot areas throughout the city.

Ms. Chola Mwamba, the Public Relations Manager for LCC, issued an official statement outlining the multifaceted approach being spearheaded by the Local Authority’s Department of Public Health.

The strategy encompasses the disinfection of markets and bus stations, the distribution of cholerine, and the systematic collection of garbage, including addressing historical waste concerns.

Ms. Mwamba emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the Local Authority is tirelessly working around the clock to contain the further spread of cholera in high-risk areas, specifically targeting Kanyama, Chawama, George, and Matero compounds.

The goal is to curb the transmission of the disease and protect the health and well-being of the local population.

A dedicated team of Public Health Educators has been swiftly dispatched to the affected areas to engage with the community and educate residents on effective prevention measures against cholera and other waterborne diseases.

The LCC’s outreach efforts aim to empower the public with knowledge, encouraging proactive steps to safeguard individual and community health.

Ms. Mwamba is appealing to traders within the city, urging them to conduct their business activities in designated areas. This, she emphasized, would play a crucial role in reducing solid waste in the Central Business District (CBD).

The collaborative efforts of the business community, in alignment with the Local Authority’s initiatives, are essential in creating a cleaner and healthier urban environment.

As the Lusaka City Council heightens its cholera prevention response, residents are advised to stay informed and follow recommended hygiene practices.

The combination of sanitation measures, education, and community cooperation underscores the city’s commitment to proactively address public health challenges and create a safer living environment for all.

The situation remains fluid, and the LCC reassures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to mitigate the impact of the cholera outbreak.
