President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia took a strategic step towards tackling urgent environmental challenges by participating in the Commonwealth Royal Reception.

The reception served as the launching platform for the Inaugural Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum, conducted in collaboration with the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI). This significant event preceded the official commencement of COP28.

Hosted by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Forum brought together Heads of State and Government, industry leaders, philanthropists, and NGO heads.

The primary objective of the forum is to yield tangible outcomes from the private and philanthropic sectors, pooling their expertise and resources.

The collective aim is to coordinate strategies that address the daunting annual financing gap, exceeding US$3 trillion, required to achieve net-zero emissions and restore biodiversity and natural habitats.

President Hichilema emphasized Zambia’s commitment to leveraging these global partnerships and multi-stakeholder efforts to ensure the country benefits from the pledges being put forth.

The forum provides a platform for collaboration and innovation, bringing together influential figures to tackle environmental challenges on a global scale.

As the world looks toward COP28, the Inaugural Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum sets the stage for collaborative efforts in the private sector to play a crucial role in the fight against climate change and the preservation of biodiversity.
