Zambian Foreign Minister Strengthens Ties in Paris, Secures Reopening of South Korean Embassy in Lusaka
Hon. Stanley K. Kakubo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Zambia, has landed in Paris to participate in the 173rd Session of the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), an intergovernmental organization overseeing World Expos.
Upon his arrival, Minister Kakubo was warmly received by Chargé d’Affaires Mr. Chrissy Hilweele and First Secretary Consular Ms. Cecilia Kangwa. The minister is accompanied by his Special Advisor, Mr. Muki M. Benas Phiri.
During his stay in Paris, Minister Kakubo seized the opportunity to engage in bilateral talks with His Excellency Mr. Han Duck-soo, the Prime Minister of the Republic of South Korea.
The discussions focused on reinforcing existing bilateral relations and exploring strategic areas for trade and investment cooperation.
The meeting built upon previous talks held in May 2023 between Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in London.
Both leaders discussed progress in implementing plans to actualize investment opportunities between their respective countries and explored further avenues for mutual cooperation.
Hon. Kakubo expressed his satisfaction with the advancements made in the implementation of investment plans between Zambia and South Korea.
In a significant announcement, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo confirmed the reopening of the Embassy of Korea in Lusaka, Zambia, in the coming year. This move is anticipated to deepen the warm relations that the two nations have enjoyed over the years.
The General Assembly of the BIE, scheduled for November 28th, 2023, is expected to provide a platform for global leaders to discuss and shape the future of World Expos, and Minister Kakubo’s participation is seen as a testament to Zambia’s commitment to international cooperation and economic diplomacy.
