Third International Conference on Public Health in Africa 2023 Inaugurated by President Hakainde Hichilema
In a momentous event held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka today, President Hakainde Hichilema inaugurated the opening ceremony of the Third International Conference on Public Health in Africa 2023.
The conference, aptly themed ‘Breaking Barriers: Repositioning Africa in the Global Health Architecture,’ provided a crucial platform for African leaders to collectively address common health challenges facing the continent, with a focus on pandemic preparedness.
President Hichilema emphasized the increasing importance of a continental approach to public health, particularly in disease control, prevention, and detection.
He highlighted the interconnectedness of the world, stressing that health issues have no territorial boundaries, as exemplified by the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The President encouraged collaborative efforts, urging stakeholders to work together in fostering equity and fairness in health outcomes for Africa. This includes areas such as research and development, diagnostics, and vaccines.
Notably, President Hichilema pointed out the significant progress made in Africa, with the continent now producing Covid-19 vaccines, reinforcing the need for comprehensive disease preparedness at the continental level to ensure collective health security.
Delegates and stakeholders from across the African continent, as well as representatives from as far as the Caribbean Islands, were in attendance, creating a diverse and collaborative atmosphere.
President Hichilema warmly welcomed the international participants to Zambia, emphasizing the importance of shared knowledge and cooperation in advancing public health initiatives.
