Man Detained for Alleged Hate Speech on Facebook

The police apprehended Mr. Fletcher Mwansa, a 25-year-old resident of Kitwe District, in connection with a hate speech offense, as per Section 65 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021.

The alleged incident took place between October 17 and October 20, 2023. During this period, Mr. Mwansa, who operates a Facebook account under the name Fletcher Mwansa, is accused of posting and sharing content that qualifies as hate speech. 

The content reportedly contained offensive language and was published on his Facebook page.

Following these allegations, the police launched an investigation that led to the successful tracking and arrest of the suspect in Kitwe on October 20, 2023.

At present, the suspect is in police custody, awaiting formal charges.
