Mosi Light Support Zambia Rugby 7s Women’s Team on Their Road to Olympic Qualification

Zambian Breweries, through its Mosi Light brand, is sponsoring and unveiling the official jersey for the Zambia Rugby 7s Women’s Team as they aim to secure a spot in the final qualifications for the 2024 Olympics. 

This partnership underscores Zambian Breweries’ commitment to local sports development and initiatives, particularly women’s rugby in Zambia.

During the jersey unveiling event, Country Director Michelle Kilpin expressed Zambian Breweries’ pride in supporting the Women’s Rugby 7s Team, emphasizing the qualities of unity, excellence, and resilience that sports embody. 

She highlighted the company’s recognition of the positive impact of sports, including discipline, teamwork, and core values that resonate with their daily operations.

Zambian Breweries, through Mosi Light, has provided substantial support, amounting to over K600,000, to the team. 

This financial backing reflects their dedication to fostering opportunities in the communities where they operate, especially in the realm of women’s rugby. The Women’s Rugby 7s Team’s dedication and accomplishments serve as a testament to the fruits of this commitment.

Boniface Kambikambi, Secretary General of the National Olympics Committee of Zambia, expressed his enthusiasm for the team’s journey, drawing parallels to the historic participation of Zambia’s Copper Queens in football at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 

He emphasized the significance of promoting gender equity in sports and acknowledged the invaluable role played by sponsors like Mosi Light in advancing rugby and the women’s team.

Cecilia Tresha, Secretary General of the Zambia Rugby Union, extended her gratitude to Zambian Breweries for their unwavering support of rugby, particularly their sponsorship of the Women’s 7s Rugby Team as they aspire to represent Zambia at the Olympics. 

She highlighted the Union’s deliberate efforts to promote women’s rugby, including amending the rugby constitution to include a gender equality clause.

As the Copper Eagles Team embarks on their journey to Tunisia for the final Olympic qualifications leading up to the 2024 Olympics, they do so with the united support of Zambia and the enthusiastic backing of their fans.
