Malawian President Commends Mozambican Counterpart for Promoting Regional Prosperity
In a display of true Pan-Africanism, Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera commended Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi for his dedication to fostering prosperity in neighboring nations.
President Chakwera’s remarks came during the inauguration of the rehabilitated, expanded, and upgraded Nacala Port Infrastructure in Nampula.
President Chakwera expressed the rarity of seeing one nation actively promote the prosperity of another in Africa, highlighting President Nyusi’s commitment to strengthening economic ties between their countries.
He recounted President Nyusi’s promise during an historic State Visit last year to expedite the modernization of Nacala Port to benefit Malawi’s economic interests.
The Malawian leader emphasized that regional economic integration hinges on cooperation and collaboration among neighboring nations. He stressed the need for trust-building to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Without trust, facilitating AfCFTA’s implementation and its objective of improving logistical effectiveness and reducing costs for cross-border trade would be exceedingly challenging.
President Chakwera congratulated President Nyusi and the Mozambican government for their milestone achievement and generous partnership with Malawi.
He underscored the significance of robust connectivity in the region, especially in terms of power supply, rail, road, and air transport systems.
The impact of climate change-induced cyclones on critical infrastructure and energy production capacity underscored the importance of such connectivity.
Improved infrastructure along the Nacala Corridor is expected to drive inclusive growth across industries like energy, agriculture, and manufacturing, leading to increased employment and consumer demand.
President Chakwera further encouraged the private sector to capitalize on the opportunities presented by the modernized Nacala Development Corridor, which now boasts a well-equipped and upgraded port.
The Nacala Port Infrastructure’s inauguration symbolizes the commitment of regional leaders to bolstering economic cooperation and fostering prosperity among neighboring nations.
