Chawama Police Investigate Suspected Murder in Old Chawama Compound

Today on September 23, 2023, Chawama Police Station received a report of a suspected murder from Kennedy Mwanza, aged 42, residing in an unmarked house in Old Chawama Compound. Kennedy reported that he found his brother, Shadreck Mwanza, aged 38, lying lifeless on the ground at approximately 05:00 hours in Chawama Compound.

In a statement released by the police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, disclosed that the details of the case indicate that the deceased person used to share a house with his brother, who is the reporter in this matter. On September 22, 2023, at around 17:00 hours, the reporter left home to work as a security guard at a named company in Makeni. Upon returning from work at 05:00 hours on September 23, he discovered the lifeless body of his brother lying naked on the ground outside their house.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased person was assaulted by a neighbor known only as Ranger. The assault reportedly occurred because the deceased was accused of defecating behind Ranger’s house. During the investigation, police scenes of crime officers visited the scene and found no visible physical injuries on the body of the deceased. However, it is suspected that the skull may be fractured, possibly as a result of blunt force trauma.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary pending an autopsy and burial arrangements. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with the aim of apprehending the suspect responsible for the alleged murder
