Malawi Electoral Commission Unveils New Strategic Plan and General Election Operational Plan for 2025

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has proudly announced the launch of its new Strategic Plan for 2023-2028 and the 2025 General Election Operational Plan, set to be unveiled on August 11, 2023.

A parade from MEC Head Office at Development House in the City Centre to Umodzi Park Hotel in Lilongwe will mark the start of the day’s events at 8:00 AM.

The formal launch, themed “Enhancing Cost-Effectiveness In Election Management Through Digitalisation”, will commence at 9:00 AM. The Strategic Plan serves as a comprehensive roadmap guiding the Commission’s activities over the next five years. It will allow the MEC to adapt and respond to the evolving electoral landscape.

The 2025 General Election Operational Plan, also to be unveiled at the launch, outlines the roadmap and activities that the Commission will undertake leading up to the general election scheduled for September 16, 2025.

The MEC has extended invitations to a wide array of stakeholders, including all registered political parties, government ministries, departments and agencies, civil society organizations, and the media. Furthermore, the launch will be broadcast live on MEC’s Facebook page for interested parties unable to attend in person.

The release of this Strategic Plan signifies the MEC’s commitment to continuous improvement and the pursuit of excellence in electoral management. The MEC aims to strengthen its role as a trusted institution by embarking on this transformative journey, thereby fostering public confidence and upholding democratic values.
