Education Minister Hon. Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima Commends UNICAF University Graduates at 4th Graduation Ceremony

Today Thursday, 3rd August 2023, the Education Minister of Malawi, Hon. Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, MP, addressed the audience at the 4th Graduation Ceremony of UNICAF University. The event, held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), celebrated the achievements of 444 highly educated and trained professionals, including 22 doctoral-level graduands, who will contribute to the development of their respective countries and Malawi.

In her speech, Hon. Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima expressed her gratitude to all the distinguished guests and stakeholders present at the ceremony, both in-person and virtually from various parts of Africa and the world. She warmly welcomed the international visitors to Malawi, known as the “Warm Heart of Africa,” and encouraged them to explore the country during their stay.

The Minister highlighted the importance of human capital development and emphasized that the graduation of these highly educated individuals is an invaluable asset for national, regional, and global development. She acknowledged UNICAF University’s contribution to the National Education Sector Investment Plan (NESIP) through its innovative online and blended learning approach, which promotes equitable access to higher education in Malawi.

Hon. Wirima lauded the significance of Open, Distance, and e-Learning (ODeL) as one of the most rapidly growing modes of instruction globally. She stressed that embracing digital approaches across all sectors of the economy, including education, is crucial for Africa’s competitiveness at the regional and global marketplace.

The Education Minister praised UNICAF University’s efforts in complementing government initiatives in offering education services at various levels in Malawi. She commended the university’s recent announcement of the Bachelor of Education in Primary Education program, which aligns with the Government’s vision of improving teacher welfare and professionalism through higher education programs.

Hon. Wirima urged the graduands to be proactive in finding solutions to future challenges, contributing to Malawi’s development and fulfilling the aspirations of the African Union Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She encouraged them to embrace lifelong learning, maintain good character, and uphold integrity and work ethics in their professional journeys.

In conclusion, the Minister expressed her gratitude to parents, guardians, lecturers, university staff, and benefactors for their support in the graduands’ academic achievements. She congratulated the graduates and commended UNICAF University for its dedication to human capital development and innovation in education.
