This exciting initiative aims to foster innovation and support solutions that address critical environmental and societal challenges within the country.

The PachiPanda Innovation Challenge serves as a unique platform to inspire individuals, aspiring entrepreneurs, and established innovators to develop sustainable ideas that can make a meaningful impact on the environment and society at large. Through this challenge, PachiPanda seeks to cultivate a culture of innovation and drive positive change throughout Zambia.

The key features of the PachiPanda Innovation Challenge include:

Inspiring and inclusive: The challenge aims to inspire a diverse range of participants, including university students, professionals, and entrepreneurs, to engage in sustainable innovation.

Focus on local Zambian challenges: The challenge centers around identifying and addressing specific environmental challenges faced by Zambia, adopting a hyper-local approach to find sustainable solutions.

Mentorship and support: Participants will have access to industry experts and mentors from partner organizations who will provide guidance and support throughout the challenge, assisting in the development of their innovative ideas.

Funding opportunities: PachiPanda will provide funding and resources to the winning projects, helping them implement and scale their initiatives.

Network and visibility: Participants will have the opportunity to connect with a broad network of like-minded individuals, potential investors, and stakeholders, increasing the visibility and impact of their projects.

The term “PachiPanda” is derived from the Bemba language, meaning “we are together.” It highlights the shared responsibility of caring for the environment and addressing societal issues, involving individuals from all walks of life.

PachiPanda firmly believes that sustainable innovation is crucial in tackling the pressing environmental and social challenges in Zambia. By encouraging individuals to think creatively and develop sustainable solutions, the organization aims to drive a shift towards a greener and more sustainable future for the country.

“We are thrilled to launch the PachiPanda Innovation Challenge in Zambia, a country blessed with abundant natural resources. We believe that harnessing the power of sustainable innovation can unlock its true potential,” stated Nachilala Nkombo, WWF Zambia Country Director.

Rose Sibisi, Chairperson of MTNZF, expressed excitement about the groundbreaking ideas that will emerge from this challenge. She affirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting the winning projects in making a tangible and positive impact. Sibisi believes that by promoting sustainable solutions, they can stimulate the growth of green businesses, create green jobs, and drive green industrialization for the benefit of the country and its people.

During the launch event, Honorable Collins Nzovu, Minister of Green Economy and Environment, emphasized the need to scale up climate and innovative environmental and social solutions in African nations. He highlighted Zambia’s commitment to driving positive change by providing platforms for young people to develop ideas that tackle climate change, restore ecosystems, promote sustainable land management practices, and foster circular economy models.

The winners of the PachiPanda Innovation Challenge will be awarded $10,000, and the top 10 teams will continue to receive support until they are investment ready. This initiative seeks to inspire innovative solutions and drive transformative change, positioning Zambia as a leader in sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
