Tanzanian President Suluhu in Malawi for independence celebrations

Tanzanian President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has arrived in the country for a three day state visit and will on Thursday be a special guest at the 59th Malawi independence day celebrations at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Young Africans of Tanzania will also face Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi in a friendly encounter to mark the 59th anniversary of Malawi’s independence.

On Wednesday night , Malawi’s President Lazarous Chakwera hosted Suluhu to state banquet at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

During the dinner, Malawi and Tanzanian governments agreed to double their efforts in fighting crossboarder crime such as smuggling as the two nations seek to promote trade activities for their economic growth.

Chakwera and Suluhu Hassan also agreed to continue cooperating in other areas such as transport, mining and tourism.

Malawi gained independence from Britain in 1964.
